Out and About in Coral Gables: Books & Books

Librarians love books, right? And special collections librarians love a bit of history.  Luckily for us, Books & Books in Coral Gables provides a bit of both.

Books & Books is one of Miami’s quintessential bookstores, and the Coral Gables location is the original.  Founded in 1982, they were one of the first bookstores in Miami and are often credited with helping create a thriving literary scene in the area.  Check out their events calendar for local, national and international author readings.

But that’s not all! Books & Books is located in a beautiful 1927 building listed in the Coral Gables Register of Historic Places. Originally a medical building, the floor plan consists of two wings connected by an arcade surrounding an inner courtyard (now home to an open air cafe). Mediterranean in style, the interior includes beamed ceilings, floor-to-ceiling dark-wood bookshelves and original tiled floors.

So, stop in and pick up some books on Coral Gables history, have a coffee in the courtyard cafe and enjoy this piece of local book and architectural history!
