Optional Break Time Activity – Crafty Outreach: Small Button, Big Impact
At the Mount Holyoke College Archives and Special Collections we have had great success in our outreach efforts with students, alums, and members of the community through the use of a button maker. We do hands-on 1″ button-making activities using copies of historic images, especially the MHC class colors and symbols, at orientation, Mountain Day, Founder’s Day, and other special events in the College’s calendar year. Button-making has become a focus of our reunion weekend activities, drawing in over four hundred alums to make class symbol buttons. I’ll share how small creative efforts have led to significant gains—and you will have the opportunity to make your very own button!
