Participant Driven Session: Forever Alone: A Roundtable Discussion of How to Make It Alone in Archives and Special Collections

Sponsored by: Read’Em Again Books

The purpose of this roundtable discussion is to begin a dialogue about the challenges that face special collections librarians and archivists who work alone or at smaller, less-well-funded institutions. The moderators will share their own experiences, and there will be a focus on discussing challenges confronted by roundtable participants as well as an opportunity to share and brainstorm strategies for overcoming those challenges. Topics may include strategies for building partnerships, where to look for feasible grant options, how to assess projects, creating campus/community partnerships and buy in, and how the limited resources and opportunities of small-shop professionals may affect the diversity of presenters, committee members, and attendees for RBMS, SAA, and regional associations and conferences.

Discussion Leaders:
Paula Mitchell, Southern Utah University
Amber J. D’Ambrosio, Willamette University
Jennifer Collins, State University of New York at Delhi
